The role of inoculants in ferroalloys
The role of inoculants in ferroalloys
Ferroalloys are generally used as:
① Deoxidizer. In the steelmaking process, oxygen is removed from molten steel, and some iron alloys can also remove other impurities in steel such as sulfur and nitrogen.
② Alloy additives. According to the composition requirements of the steel grade, alloying elements are added to the steel to improve the properties of the steel.
③ Inoculant. It is added into molten iron before casting of cast iron to improve the crystallographic structure of the casting. In addition, it is also used as a reducing agent for the production of other ferrous alloys and non-ferrous metals by metallothermic reduction; an alloy additive for non-ferrous alloys; and a small amount is also used in the chemical industry and other industries.
The use of inoculants is more and more widely used in ferroalloys, and the price of inoculants is also adjusted accordingly in the market with the use of ferroalloys.
